NAIROBI, KENYA – 9th July 2026

A new chapter of hope has begun. Today, Semerian Sankori, Executive Director of Patinaai Osim—an NGO dedicated to empowering pastoralist communities—and Kyalo Mutua, CEO of Savannah Honey, officially signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to uplift and support less privileged families through sustainable beekeeping and community empowerment initiatives.

The landmark partnership brings together two organizations with a shared vision of creating lasting impact by expanding livelihood opportunities, promoting economic inclusion, and empowering vulnerable communities with practical, income-generating solutions. The signing ceremony marked the beginning of a collaborative journey aimed at transforming lives across Kenya’s pastoralist and underserved regions.

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

Patinaai Osim has long been at the forefront of advocating for pastoralist communities, working to improve access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Savannah Honey, on the other hand, has established itself as a leader in modern beekeeping and agribusiness development, with a proven track record of empowering farmers, youth, and women through training, value addition, and market access.

Together, the two organizations will work hand in hand to:

Promote modern beekeeping practices among pastoralist and underserved communities

Create employment opportunities for youth and women

Improve household incomes through sustainable honey production and value addition

Restore dignity and economic independence to vulnerable families

Build climate-resilient livelihoods that thrive even in harsh environmental conditions

“We believe that sustainable partnerships create sustainable futures,” said Kyalo Mutua, CEO of Savannah Honey. “This MOU with Patinaai Osim is a commitment to walk with communities, not just for a season, but for the long haul. Beekeeping offers pastoralist communities a unique opportunity to diversify their income while preserving their way of life and protecting the environment.”

Empowering Pastoralist Communities Through Beekeeping

For pastoralist communities, beekeeping presents a transformative opportunity. Unlike livestock farming, which requires vast tracts of land and is highly vulnerable to drought, beekeeping requires minimal space, very little water, and no feed or chemicals. It thrives in arid and semi-arid lands where other agricultural activities struggle to survive.

Through this partnership, Patinaai Osim and Savannah Honey will:

Train community members in modern, safe, and high-yield beekeeping techniques

Provide access to quality hives, protective gear, and equipment

Establish market linkages for honey and value-added products

Create sustainable income streams that reduce dependency on aid

Promote environmental conservation through pollination and ecosystem restoration

A Shared Vision for Lasting Impact

The MOU signing is a testament to what can be achieved when organizations with complementary strengths come together for a common purpose. Both Savannah Honey and Patinaai Osim are committed to:

Expanding livelihood opportunities for marginalized communities

Promoting economic inclusion and financial independence

Building resilient communities capable of withstanding economic and environmental shocks

Creating models of sustainable development that can be replicated across Kenya and beyond

“Empowering communities is not just about giving handouts—it is about giving tools, knowledge, and opportunities,” said Semerian Sankori, Executive Director of Patinaai Osim. “This partnership with Savannah Honey will equip our communities with the skills and resources they need to build their own futures. That is the kind of transformation we are here to create.”

What Comes Next

The partnership will begin with community sensitization and training programs in selected pastoralist regions, with a focus on identifying and preparing participants for the 5-Year Contract Program that Savannah Honey offers. This program guarantees farmers a market for their honey for five years, removing the fear of market uncertainty and ensuring steady income.

As the collaboration grows, both organizations aim to scale the initiative to reach more communities, deepen the impact, and create a network of thriving beekeeping enterprises across Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands.

Empowering Communities. Transforming Lives. Building a Sustainable Future.

That is the promise of this partnership—a promise of hope, opportunity, and lasting change.
